Nigeria plans to halt $6 billion in textile imports from China and India

Nigeria's Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, John Enoh, said that Nigeria plans to end textile imports worth $6 billion a year from China and India, in addition to promoting "Made in Nigeria" products, but also to revitalize the domestic textile industry and its value chain.


He said the government's main agenda includes economic growth through manufacturing and job creation.

During a three-day visit to industries in Lagos and Ogun states recently, the minister said the government's main agenda included achieving economic growth through manufacturing and job creation.


Domestic media reports quoted him as saying: "The textile and garment industry in the Republic of Benin is booming and they are targeting the Nigerian market.


He added that years ago, the Nigerian textile industry was almost on a level playing field with the government in terms of jobs.
