Stewart spiked lattices work as transfer and opening devices in the bale opener consisting of circulating endless belts with pinned bars set at regular spacing.

The lattice needles penetrate the raw material and feed it into the hopper.

Opening occurs when the needles pass the counter rotating roller which allows small tufts to be stripped from the larger raw material lumps.

Opening intensity can be adjusted by changing the pinning specification.
